N8 AgriFood Launch 21-22 June 2016

The N8 Research Partnership held their launch event this summer at our largest venue, University Place. The N8 Research Partnership comprises of researchers from Manchester, Durham, Lancaster, Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle, Sheffield and York universities and the launch provided an opportunity for delegates to collaborate and address the global challenge of guaranteeing sustainable, resilient and healthy food supplies.

The event came with the challenge of a very tight planning schedule. The initial enquiry was only received 6 months before the event and the booking confirmed in April which provided a 2½ month window for our Events Team to work with the organising team from the University of York to pull all the event details together.

We hosted 400 delegates over the two days. Over 50 speakers from organisations including of Co-Operative Group, HSBC, Sainsbury’s, Nestlé, Department for Environment, PepsiCo, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), and the National Farmers’ Union spoke about the need for a sustainable food system that will meet today’s and future needs allowing for population growth and climate change impacts. The delegate lunch for both days was served in the Drum area of University Place and, given the theme of the conference, it was imperative that menus could clearly demonstrate sustainable ethics and sourcing from the local supply chain. Menu options and alternatives were designed to meet all special dietary requirements. Our Events Team helped the organisers to coordinate the logistics of managing the three venues (University Place, Manchester Museum and Whitworth Hall) and the two in-house catering teams (Taste Manchester and The Chancellors Collection)
Evening banquets were held in the beautiful gothic Whitworth Hall and the University owned Manchester Museum in the heart of the University.

The event was supported by our in-house Media Services Team who filmed all of the key sessions including a full day’s schedule of filmed interviews at both the day and evening venues.
